MegaMIMO, creator of a technology that increases download speeds from the existing wireless spectrum, won the 22nd Annual MIT $100K Elevator Pitch Contest, held November 2, 2011 by the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition at the MIT Stata Center.MIT PhD student, Hariharan Rahul, pitched for MegaMIMO, walking away with the $5,000 grand prize. The two runner-ups won $2000 each and included WellWatcher, pitched by MIT PhD student Melinda Hale, and Podimetrics, pitched by MIT Sloan MBA student Jon Bloom. Podimetrics was also awarded $1000 for the Audience choice award.WellWatchers provides a service to landfills by tuning the renewable energy production from the landfill gas they are already required to collect, providing maximum value from landfill-gas-to-energy projects.
Podimetrics uses technology to prevent foot ulcers in diabetes patients.
More than 280 teams competed in this year’s Elevator Pitch Contest and over 100 coaching and mentoring sessions were held for contest applicants. The finals were held in front of a live audience on the MIT campus.
The EPC showcased game-changing ideas spanning six different industries including: Web/IT, product and services, energy, emerging markets, life sciences, and mobile.
Judges included David Cancel from Hubspot, Mark Levin from Third Rock Ventures, Amir Nashat from Polaris Ventures, and Yarl Yankowski from Westerham Group.
